REVIEW: Ipsy October 2013

Behold, this month's October Ipsy bag! Nothing like waiting 'til the last minute, huh?

This month's there was 'Art of Beauty' and I have to say I loved my bag, despite being initially unimpressed with the spoilers. :)

Note: Please forgive my photos. My camera died so I'm using my camera until after Christmas & my birthday have passed!

My October bag:
Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly
be Delectable Hand Cream in Strawberry & Cream
Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Gel
Zoya Nail Polish in Mason
H2O+ Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment

Zoya Nail Polish in Mason, from the Cashmeres & Satins Collection. I'm horrible as describing colors, but the Zoya website describes Mason as "an exciting red violet or "Fandango Pink" metallic." It might just be me..but I think it leans a little more purple than pink, especially if you use multiple coats. Regardless, it's gorgeous and the metallic aspect gives it so much depth and shimmer! I used a base coat, two coats of Mason, and a top coat. :)

Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Gel. As someone who blow dries their hair every single day...I am always psyched to get things like this in my subscriptions. Basically you just take a bit of this and work it through damp hair from roots to ends and then blow dry. First, let me say that this has a really pleasant smell. It actually reminds me of a blow dry gel I used back in high school, although the name of that product escapes me at the moment. Second, holy cow does this give my hair volume! If I didn't brush it after blow drying, I'd have HUGE hair. Don't let the 'gel' aspect scare you away..it doesn't make your hair crunchy or hard at all. In fact, I can't even tell I have any product in when I use it!

be Delectable Hand Cream in Strawberry & Cream. This was actually the least exciting thing in the bag for me. It does smell like strawberries, but to me it smells like fake candy strawberry rather than real ones. SUPER sweet smelling. Otherwise, it's just a lotion. Nothing exceptional. Put it on and it felt nice & moisturizing, but it didn't last very long. Had to reapply pretty frequently.

H2O+ Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment. FAVORITE part of my bag. I hate moisturizers and I don't know why I never thought to look for a gel rather than a lotion. Well, here's a moisturizing gel and it is amazing. It goes on really smoothly and blends well. Also has this great cooling sensation when applying it! I've noticed it does take a little longer to completely dry than a lotion, but once it does my face feels SO hydrated! Definitely try this stuff out, especially if you find most lotion moisturizers too oily/greasy for your skin.

Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly. I've heard so many great things about Buxom, but this is actually the first product of theirs I've been able to try. Not a huge lip gloss fan, but I tried it out and really loved this one! First, did not realize this was a plumping gloss so the tingling sensation was surprising. :) My lips definitely did feel more plump than usual and it does last fairly long. The color is pretty light and sheer but my lips don't have a lot of color to begin with, so it showed up ok on me. Can't wait to try out a few more of these in different colors! (Sephora has this set of six for $32)

What did you all get in your October Ipsy bags? Anything you really loved or hated?

  1. I wish I had gotten the hand cream, it sounds like it would smell magical. I didn't really like my IPSY bag, so I've unsubscribed for now. I'm trying to cut some subs to save up for the impending holiday season.
